Bridging The Gap: Media and The Military Workshop

Barrak Obama
Issues arising from the Afgan War Diary which was recently released by Wikileaks have brought to the fore the significance of the forthcoming Media and The Miltary Workshop that the University of Kansas, United States will be organising between 26 September and 1 October 2010. Another incident that makes the workshop very timely is the events that led to the sack of the former NATO War Commander In Afganistan, Gen Stanley McChrystal  and the appointment of his successor, Gen David Petraeus.
The issues behind those stories are media related and perhaps going to be in the front burner in the forthcoming workshop.Since the training is geared towards making reporters learn more about today's military, it will definitely go a long way in bridging the seeming gap between the media and the military. While the media has a lot of responsibilities hanging on its roles and duties, a thorogh knowledge of the workings of the military will aid the reporter in his report. .
